Blog Post #3 on research gap

My research gap regarding gendered expectations and documents of hire (i.e. resumes, letters of recommendation, digital profiles) has to do with involving a larger sampling of data comprising many different documents of hire. The research I found involving documents of hire and gendered expectations all tended to focus on one document of hire or type of document of hire, rather than focusing on many types in one study or as part of their research design. Additionally, there is a research gap in terms of using a broader gender-coding system that is specific to agentic vs communal characteristics. For example, characteristics that are generally described as the expression of agency or control over oneself or of others and characteristics that are generally described as the expression of showing concern for the welfare of others.

  1. I think you have an interesting research topic, Samantha. I'm not familiar with the topic you are researching, but it sounds like after doing your literature review, you have a good direction for the gap you want to address in your research. Good luck, and thank you for sharing!

  2. I think your topic is very interesting as well as necessary to research! Your research gap definitely seems like something that require more research. Focusing on only one type of document of hire rather than many different types definitely creates a discrepancy in the research. I think this research gap has many different things that you will be able to pull out of it. I am excited to see what you find!
