How do gendered expectations influence the content and structure of cover letters and resumes, and how does this affect hiring decisions in different industries?

  1. Samantha, I love this idea for a topic. I recently have become more interested in discrimination in the workplace due to some unfortunate events that took place for me just a few weeks ago in a professional work environment. I think it would also be a good idea to maybe get some interviews with some staff and/or faculty here at Utah Tech so that there will be some personalization to your topic as well as this strong subject.

  2. I think that there is a missing voice involved with this list of resources. I think that there probably is a whole other facet of research involved with bias regarding trans individuals and resumes. To revise the plan, I think that I would like to add a couple resources on hiring decisions based on resumes and trans individuals (if there are any resources that can help with that path).

  3. Hi Samantha,

Looks like you had a good start on your sources, so far. I know you'll be distilling more of your topic interest as you plow through and annotate the sources you've found. At this point, I think some of your PTW-specific sources thrown into the mix (c/o source list on Canvas) direct your investigation more towards the lens of PTW. After the Lit. Review is done, maybe we can set a quick appointment to brainstorm ideas for your Research Proposal and make the research design more beneficial and applicable to practitioners/scholars within our field. (As always, feel free to set an appt. with me anytime if you need help -- am here).

    Keep up the good work!

    Best,

    Dr. B
